WHAT IS THE ENNIS SAFE HOME NETWORK?

IMPACT Ennis

The Ennis Safe Homes Network is a program of IMPACT Ennis and Drug Prevention Resources, Inc. We are a network of Ennis families committed to providing safe, healthy homes for Ennis youth. We promise to actively supervise all gatherings of youth on our properties, to set appropriate expectations and consequences for children’s behavior, and to never allow the possession of alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs by youth in our homes.

Drug Prevention Resources, Inc.

Ennis Safe Homes provides a way for parents and other adults to agree on expectations for their children and their children’s friends. By using the Safe Homes Directory, you can check to see if the home your child is visiting is a Safe Home. If the home is not listed, the Safe Homes Pledge provides an outline of important questions to ask adults who will be responsible for your child’s welfare. Taking these precautions does not make you a nosy parent – it makes you a loving one.

FAQs

What if my children are only in elementary school?

Effective prevention starts early! Children need to know exactly what their parents expect of them. Parents can ensure this happens by creating clear, consistent rules and consequences while the children are still young and willing to listen and follow directions. Discuss early and often with your children the expectation that there will be NO USE of alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs by your children or their friends.

What if I don’t have children?

Even if you don’t have children, you can play an important role in setting clear, consistent rules and consequences for children. Grandparents, aunts and uncles, educators, faith leaders, and neighbors can and should work together to create a safe, supportive environment for youth. It takes a village to raise a child!

Does pledging mean I can’t have alcohol in my home?

No, by signing the pledge you promise not to allow anyone under 21 to have alcohol in your home or on your property. If you are over 21, we encourage you to be a good role model and practice low risk use regarding alcohol. Insist that all youth wait to make this important decision until they are 21.
